Recently, we were working with Pasco County to help solve a flood damage situation in New Port Richey. A parking lot was not allowing rain waters to proceed towards a drain properly and that was resulting in continuous flooding within the lot and a nearby ditch. While we were helping find a solution and helping them install a water pump, we had the Pastor of the Gulf Coast Worship Center, located near the lot, come out and talk to us.
While speaking with the Pastor, we were surprised by the fact the church had not experienced any flooding due to its proximity to the frequently flooded parking lot. We were surprised until the Pastor casually mentioned the water his maintenance man had been finding daily ever since Tropical Storm Debby. Uh huh…
We asked the Pastor if we could see the area where the water was being found. He led us to a staircase that led in from the outside to the side of the stage at the front of the congregation area. Apparently, the maintenance man would find water daily ever since Tropical Storm Debby. He would then proceed to remove the water with a shop vac.
After hearing this story, we decided to look around for any other signs of water damage. We immediately noticed that the congregation was extremely humid. The Pastor explained that one of his air conditioning units were no longer working.
We immediately realized that the church indeed had a water damage problem and we were guessing that there was most likely a well-developed pond underneath the stage. As water damage and mold experts, we can tell you that excess water, flooding and humidity are not good things.
